Recent Projects - Chichester College at Bognor

Liz started working on this scheme towards the end of 2011. The brief was to design a scheme linking the Learning Resource Centre with the Dome building and to provide cross campus pathways to improve access. The scheme provided a gathering space in the shape of the new circular terrace paved in sandstone outside of the Dome building and new planting.

The new tree planting includes an avenue of Lime trees. It was agreed between the client and John Ford to erect a memorial for Liz in this new area of the college grounds which was the last project that Liz had worked on.

Housing Development

The practice was asked to provide proposals to create a buffer zone alongside a section of a river located on the perimeter of a public open space associated with a new development. We have designed a scheme that provides not only protection to the river bank, but management and enhancement of the riparian habitat. We have also provided managed access for local people and interest groups. We have been able to meet the requirements of Article 10 of the Habitats Directive by not only extending corridors for biodiversity but creating a useable public open space of interest which will continue to grow and develop opportunities for colonisation by many plants and animals associated with this habitat.

Planting Proposals – Site Wide

Planting Proposals – Site Wide

The planting palette aims to combine species that are native to this area of the country with more ornamental versions of these species for the smaller garden spaces. It aims to create planting that is manageable, changing to provide interest over the year and most importantly, increase opportunities for biodiversity.

Roof Garden

The practice was asked to provide design advice and source planters to create a potted roof garden incorporating trees as well as shrubs and topiary. The client had already created interesting screening one boundary using pleached Hornbeam, as shown below.

The expertise of a structural engineer was sought to ensure that the soil specification and combined weight of the garden would not affect the structure of the roof.

Pots were selected that kept to shades of white through to grey, with terracotta highlights, relying on the plants to provide to provide colour and interest.
